Ron Jeremy: the misunderstood porn star

One of my greatest beliefs is that some of the most interesting people are misunderstood. In this case, it was Ron Jeremy. Porn star, actor, legend to many, and recognizable as the “greatest or most well known porn star in the world” or “that guy who has been in over 2000 adult films”. Ron has made it big (no pun intended) by well, being a porn star. A true example of how no matter what you may do besides porn, it will be the most recognizable attribute you take part in…it’s something you will never escape weather you try to give up your career in porn, or made a sex tape that one time (ahem, KIM K/ Paris Hilton/ every other girl who wanted to be famous). I don’t think Ron seems to mind though, he reassured me that his porn name gave him the opportunity to do what he loves most: act.

Of course I was familiar with who Ron was before meeting him, but I wanted to pick his brain a little; so I pretended I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t want him to think I was only talking to him because he was famous.. I wanted him to trust me and be able to open up. He got a bit flustered when I told him I had no idea who he was and I blamed it on the fact that I was an “innocent Canadian” which resulted in him insisting we walk by Hustler on Sunset Boulevard, so that he could personally show me his name engraved in the pavement, beside names like Jenna Jameson. I continued to play dumb and say things such as; “so you’re a stand up comedian?” which in retrospect, could be entirely true since he has the wittiest sense of humour and doesn’t mind making fun of himself.

Over the course of a few weeks, I ran into Ron a few times at his usual hang out on Sunset Boulevard (yay for rock bars); and got to know him in a different light. The man was constantly cracking jokes, making new friends, and his presence was undeniable. Not only was he kind, but it was like he was always trying to hangout and have people around.. maybe he was lonely? maybe he just loved being around people 24/7? That I still don’t know. I do know that although he may not have the best reputation because of his porn past, he still sees everything in a positive light despite things not going exactly planned in his life.

Touching on this subject, Ron told me he never wanted to get into porn in the first place (side note: do any porn stars initially wish on it? .. except for maybe Mia Khalifa.. *yawn*). Ron was an actor; and a very passionate one to say the least. Studying theatre and education in university, Ron went on to complete his graduate’s degree in special education at Queen’s College in New York. To top this all off, he even taught special education classes on top of substitute teaching while living in New York City. (So basically, he has a heart of gold…and who knew? I sure didn’t until I actually started to see him in a different light). Ron continued to pursue his acting career in NYC, but explained that it didn’t pay the bills…that’s when Playgirl came along (his girlfriend at the time submitted a photo for him ..lolz). Then came Ron Jeremy the porn star.

Although Ron isn’t known primarily for his acting roles (Detroit Rock City or even in music videos such as the spoof of Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball); he doesn’t have any regrets about being in the porn industry. Ron explains it opened many doors for his passion in acting, and it seems like many of those doors aren’t closing anytime soon.

MP: Have you ever been in love? If yes, with who?

RJ:  I’ve loved 6 girls…actually only 5. I loved them with all of my heart. [I] only talk to the first two but occasionally the third and fourth.

He then went on to explain how he loves his family and thanks them for raising such special kids *awww*

MP: Describe the craziest porno you’ve ever been in.

RJ: You know, I’ve had a 35-year career…but anyways I was holding a telescope into the black sky and Terry Richards steps in front of the telescope and says; “it’s a clear night but I can see Uranus” [laughs]. Then there was another one with this dog that kept barking, I kept feeding it so that it would stop barking…of course it didn’t but we put the dog barking in it anyways. Many directors always would say to me “Ron, when the sex starts; stop the jokes”. I’m constantly making jokes…guys couldn’t get boners because all of the girls would start laughing…then there was this other time when I was wearing jewelry and every time the camera would do a close up of the girls face, I continued to take off one piece of jewelry…the best was [at] the ending when I took off my entire bracelet.

MP: Do you regret going into the adult film industry?

RJ: No. it’s been great. Given opportunity to be in lots of films. A-list stuff.

MP: Are you currently starring in adult movies?

RJ: No.

MP: So you got into porn for the acting. Since it seems like porn is only getting raunchier and raunchier, where do you see porn in say 20 years from now?

RJ:  Out of business.

MP: Have you ever fallen in love with or dated a co-star?

RJ: Yes, definitely.

MP: Is it true you are friends with a pastor? [Ron caused controversy for befriending an anti-porn pastor]

RJ: Yeah, we met a porn convention [laughs] Craig Gross.

MP: What religion do you practice? Would you say you are very religious?

RJ: Jewish.

MP: You’ve been in quite a few music videos. Which one was your favourite?

RJ: Hmm.. did you see that “Wrecking Ball” one? [laughs]. I can’t believe I agreed to do that. They had me in like, underwear… I didn’t want to do it. But then you know, it turned out funny. Have you seen it? It’s good. You should really see it.

I didn’t get to finish my entire interview but stay tuned because Ron being the nice guy he is, assured me we will get around to filming an interview for YouTube (STRICTLY PG RATED) AND  I get to ask even more VERY important questions such as love advice, advice for men who have a small package, and what his type of girl is (blonde, brunette, stubby?]
